Q: Who is Abt?

A:
Abt is a family owned and operated consumer electronics & appliance retailer based in Glenview, IL(a suburb of Chicago). For more than 70 years, Abt has worked hard to exceed customers expectations and provide the best service in the business. We are an authorized dealer for every manufacturer we offer, and we provide toll-free product assistance before and after the sale. We also stock everything we sell in our 350,000 square foot headquarters. The facility also includes one of the largest in-house repair centers in the US, which services almost everything we sell.

Q: Are all of the products featured at Abt’s "brick and mortar" store available online?

A:
There are still many items we carry in our store which are not yet featured on our website. As we continue to build this site, we expect to eventually get everything online. In the meantime, you can obtain price quotes for any item carried by our manufacturers (for a complete list click here ). Click here and e-mail our sales department the brand and model number and a quote will come back to you within 24 hours (usually faster). Q: Will you be adding more brands to your online stores?

A:
Yes, we plan to continue to add more brands and product categories to our online store. Abt is an authorized dealer for everything we sell. We place a high priority on maintaining a superior relationship with all the manufacturers of all the products, and everything we sell comes with a full U.S. manufacturer's warranty. Therefore, we need to work out special agreements with manufacturers to authorize us to sell their products online.

Q: Do you have a privacy policy?

Q: Does Abt ship product to locations outside the US?

A:

Currently, Abt ships only to addresses within the United States. There are several reasons for this policy:

  1. Abt's manufacturer agreements restrict our selling area to the United States and its territories.
  2. Many of the products Abt sells will not work in Europe, Africa, Australia or Asia because different countries use different radio broadcast frequencies, different television broadcast and VCR recording standards. Electrical voltage and DSS satellite coverage also vary.
  3. Many of the products Abt offers through its on-line stores are not sold outside the United States. This can make repair difficult, inconvenient and time-consuming.

Abt will continue to review this policy. We hope that in the future, we will find ways to offer our products to people living outside the United States. In the meantime, we welcome all visitors to our website.

Q: Do you offer PAL video or dual-voltage equipment for use overseas?

A:
We do offer a few products that will convert the PAL Video and/or dual voltage equipment to the US standard. However, we’re only authorized to sell these (and the remainder of our products) in the US. Currently, we do not sell any products to customers outside of North America.

Q: How much do you charge for shipping?

A:

Q: How much do you charge for taxes?

A: See the complete description of our Sales Tax Policy. Incidentally, when you fill out our online order form, our system automatically calculates and displays the taxes before you commit to purchasing any item. For most states we do not charge sales tax.

Q: How do I look up a product or category on the Abt site?

A:
At Abt, we try and make our web site as easy to get around as it is in our store. Just click on any product category listed on the navigation bar (the left-hand side of the web page) and it will take you to that product page. Once there, click on an item listed for more detailed information or to purchase. If the category does not have specific products listed, click on a brand icon and visit the manufacturers site for product specifications on the item you are looking for. Once found, click here and e-mail our sales department or phone us at 1-(888)-228-5800 for a price quote.

Q: Do you have a price match policy?

A: At Abt, we strive to give our customers the best service and pricing available anywhere.
If you have found a better price within 30 days of your purchase on any product at another legitimate authorized retailer, we will do everything possible to meet or beat that price.

Due to the various factors, our customer service department cannot search through generic websites to locate the item in question, so please provide the exact URL reference (for the page containing the item) to facilitate processing. Abt will certainly match it's own price. Please allow 24 hours for a response.

Q:Why do you require customers to check an agreement form when purchasing a DIRECTV receiver box?

A:
As of March 2002, DIRECTV requires customers to adhere to an activation agreement when you purchase any satellite receiver box sold within the US. Instead of filling out a form, you can now simply check the "Yes, I agree" button when checking out.

Q:Does Abt Electronics use cookies on its website?

A:
  Yes, we use per-session cookies, which are removed from your computer as soon as you close your browser. We do this to make the shopping experience easier on our customers as well as make our system run smoother. These cookies do not extract any information from your computer. Because of this, it would be impossible for our site to track demographic information from our customers.


Q: Why are some model numbers different on Abt’s web site from the manufacturer’s web site?

A:
  At Abt, the model numbers are made to be user friendly. The Engineering Codes are removed and the basic color scheme is added at the end. The color scheme codes are as follows: BK- Black, WH-White, SS-Stainless Steel, BT-Bisque, WWH-White on White, BWH-Black on White.

Q: At what point in the order/shipping process does Abt charge my credit card?

A:
  For in-stock merchandise, your credit card is charged when your order is finalized in our shopping cart (and we plan on it shipping within 24 hours). If your item is on backorder, your credit card is not charged until the item arrives (unless it is a special order).

Q: Why is it important to buy from an authorized online retailer like Abt?

A:
  Buying from an authorized online reseller means a handful of things: 1) The manufactuer's warranty will be honored. 2) You can be sure the products you buy are intended to be sold in the US market and are not "gray market" goods. Also, all products are shipped sealed from the manufacturer (ensuring you that no accessories or key components have been removed) and finally; 3) Authorized resellers are required to go through regular training to understand the benefits of their products- this information gets passed along to the customer.
